From the first cryptic commercials to the success of the first episodes, potential future audiences wondered if a show about misfits singing in a show choir could make it.

The buzz was loud, expectations were high. In the end, however, Glee successfully managed to combine karaoke-style singing with astute commentary on the high-school experience and universal teenage dramas.Although TV had been enamored with the karaoke-style singing show format ever since American Idol premiered in the US in 2002, few had attempted to combine singing with elements of traditional comedy. Before Glee premiered in 2009, creator Ryan Murphy spent his time assuring potential audiences that the show wouldnt include only show tunes and that cast members wouldnt spontaneously break into song.

People were put at ease when they saw that the show featured some of their favorite songs, including songs from Top 40 lists to oldies to yes, even a few show tunes. A hit with audiences, the TV show Glee, which was originally conceived as a feature-length film, quickly became a hit.MEET THE AUTHORSarah Cassie is an experienced writer and a member of the Hyperink Team, which works hard to bring you high-quality, engaging, fun content.

Happy reading!EXCERPT FROM THE BOOKWhen audiences first meet the cast of Glee, they are a disparate bunch of long-persecuted dorks, wandering the halls of their high school. Spanish teacher Will Schuester, wanting to relive his own high-school glee club days, gathers the teased and slushied singers to form The New Directions. The ragtag bunch, which includes the stereotypical sassy black girl (Mercedes), wheelchair-bound glasses-wearing dork (Artie), overenthusiastic egotistical Barbra Streisand fan (Rachel), and smart Asian (Tina), find that involvement in the glee club subjects them to even more teasing they had endured up until that point.

However, Spanish teacher Will is not immune from drama, either, as his pregnant wife pressures him to increase their standard of living at any cost. Complicating Wills life is the pretty guidance counselor, Emma Pillsbury, also the object of affection for Ken Tenaka, the football coach. And although the football team and the glee club seem like a terrible match, the two groups begin to interact when Finn Hudson, the star quarterback, joins the glee club. Cheerleaders even get in on the action when three of them, fiery Latina Santana, ditzy Brittany, and girl-next-door Quinn, also join, though their involvement may have an underlying ulterior motive.

In fact, the three cheerleaders were sent in the glee club as spies by the venomous cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, who has a strange vendetta against Will and his ragtag glee club.CHAPTER OUTLINEQuicklet on Glee Season 1 (TV Show)+ About the Show+ Directors and Producers+ General Summary+ Episode-by-Episode Summary and Commentary+ ...and much moreGlee Season 1 (TV Show)
